The Banning of Books
Apr 15,2016Banned books are books that have been challenged and successfully been removed from a library's shelves. All books that have been banned were challenged by a reader who felt the contents of the book was offensive. Many books that are removed from library shelves were books of parents who don't want their children reading certain books. Many of these parents justify their challenging of books by saying it's not "child appropriate," and that they are benefiting all of societie's children. When in reality no book should be banned from any library, if parents don't want their children reading not "child appropriate" books then they need to monitor what their children can read, not what everyone else's children can and cannot read. Many books that are banned have important lesson and values in them, and it's up to the parent to allow their child to have access to these lessons.
