Why I Decided to Follow My Dream Hobby
Jun 15,2016AmazingPhil, Danisnotonfire, jacksepticeye, Markiplier, SarahBelle, the list of YouTubers that I look up to goes on and on. For a long time, I have watched these YouTubers’ videos and thought, “I would love to do that” but I was always nervous about it. What if no one shared my interests? What if no one liked me? There’s no way I could make a career out of it, so why even try? These were all questions that I had, but the main one was this: what sets me apart from other YouTubers? These questions for a while stopped me from pursuing a YouTube channel. In November, I finally decided to put aside my fears and start my channel. What finally pushed me to do it? Read on to find out!
1. I realized it’s just a hobby. I personally don’t care that I might not make a career out of YouTube because it has given me a new hobby; it’s a conversation starter and something that “gives me purpose” in a way. YouTube is a way for me to express myself creatively while finding others that share my same interests. That is a rewarding thing to think about.
2. I decided to forget what others think. One day while watching my favorite YouTubers, I realized that every time they turn the camera on, they let their personality show without caring what others will think of them. Not everyone loves their style, but every single YouTuber has said that they gained for followers and had more fun by being themselves and letting their personality show. It was in this moment that I decided that not everyone will like me or what I do or what I say, but I shouldn’t let them stop me from what I want to do as a hobby. It was a slow start, but I’m slowly showing the world who I really am.
3. I have gained so much. Once I really began thinking about making a YouTube channel, I gained so many new skills. I’m getting better at video and photo editing, using different computer software, and using different cameras and technology. I have also gained a little bit of confidence; at first, it is intimidating to stare at a camera lens and talk, but after a while it becomes comfortable. Surprisingly, it has helped me in my every day conversations with others. I just imagine them as a giant camera lens! Okay, not really, but it has helped me be able to talk to others easily.
I hope that this has inspired you to follow your dream hobby, whether it be a YouTube channel, photography, a blog, whatever (by the way, I would love for you to check out my channel, Lyndslayer; here is the link https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrT0KC9o4I0QtY1aQymQW-Q). Never be afraid to do something that brings you happiness, or will inspire you to better yourself. Through this experience I have gained so much and lost nothing at all! Let me know if you have any passions you are thinking of pursuing!
