Autumn Hartman: My Community Service Scholarship!
Dec 10,2015
By the time I was a junior in high school, my school and community had lost the lives of three of my fellow classmates by suicide. When I saw how the loss of these students lives effected my school and community, I made it my mission to advocate and support a very preventable and important cause, suicide. I started volunteering with HeartLine in 2011, I started out helping with gathering auction items from local businesses for their annual event Festival of Hope, and when August came, I was trained to present our H.E.L.P (Healthy Education for Life Program) to Oklahoma Youth. Speaking to schools really touched my heart, because I had the ability to reach out to students around my age group and explain how serious the issue of suicide is, and how important compassion and understanding is among a student body. HeartLine does so much for the Oklahoma community, with its Suicide prevention programs, and answering several hotlines regarding human health resources, compassionate listening, gambling help hotline, and suicide prevention hotline. I am more than blessed to be involved with this organization, and I look forward to seeing all the amazing things they will do throughout the years.
