I am a political science major at the University of Oklahoma. By the time I was a junior in high school, my school and community had lost the lives of three of my fellow classmates by suicide. When I saw how the loss of these students lives effected my school and community, I made it my mission to advocate and support a very preventable and important cause, suicide. I started volunteering with HeartLine in 2011, I started out helping with gathering auction items from local businesses for their annual event Festival of Hope, and when August came, I was trained to present our H.E.L.P (Healthy Education for Life Program) to Oklahoma Youth. Speaking to schools really touched my heart, because I had the ability to reach out to students around my age group and explain how serious the issue of suicide is, and how important compassion and understanding is among a student body.
