HonorSociety.org Reviews Study Abroad Scholarship Recipients of 2013

HonorSociety.org proudly encourages its members to broaden their horizon and study abroad. The initiative and planning required to study abroad fosters growth and leadership. In 2013, four HonorSociety.org members received scholarships to help make their travels a reality. In 2014, even more members will receive support to pursue the transformative experience of studying abroad. Requirements for the HonorSociety.org Study Abroad scholarship include a description of the planned study abroad program, including dates of the program, a short essay describing the relevance of the program to the member's major, life, or goals, and a  copy of the member's current transcript.

Algenia describes her 6 weeks in Italy in a video posting on HonorSociety.org's YouTube channel. Highlights of the program for her included visiting the Sistine Chapel, climbing Mount Vesuvius, hiking from city to city in Cinque Terre, and seeing opera in Verona. " I am so excited to be studying abroad in Florence, Italy this summer. This has been something I have wanted to do for as long as I remember because my Grandparents on both sides of my family moved here from Italy. So I have grown up learning about the language and culture from the stories they told. Now, I am finally going to be to be able to travel to Italy and experience the things I have been told about my whole life."

Daniela studied health in the context of Italian culture on her study abroad program. "The study abroad program combines my passions for health and the law. Particularly, the effect that an easily accessible health care system can have on the quality of life of an average individual. This program continues to prove that in order to strengthen a country, it is essential to begin at the foundation, which is ensuring a healthy and productive life. This program shows me that average income, the place you are born in, or your social status are not predicative of the type of life you will lead. Most of all it proves that not only human compassion, but solidarity build a strong foundation to benefit the lives of an entire nation."

Albert chose his study abroad program in Rome because he desires to study archaeological sites, and go to graduate school for historical restoration. "  Being able to see the real thing right after learning about it will help us understand it better than reading about it from a book. While I can list numerous benefits this program will have on my academic career, I also believe it will contribute to my personal development. Since I first signed on to the program, people have been telling me that this study abroad experience will not only last forever, but will also change me and the way I see things.  If this is true and I have broadened my horizon, then this is a venture worth investing in."

"I had an incredible opportunity to study abroad in the center of London with a group of about 23 people who study Liberal Arts. During this 2-month period I was able to experience the historic beauty of England. Whether it was Windsor Castle, the official residence of the Queen built over 900 years ago, or Westminster Abbey, the gorgeous Royal Peculiar and one of the most notable religious buildings in the United Kingdom, there were countless places to be a part of. This was the experience of a lifetime and I thank Honorsociety.org for awarding me a scholarship!"
