My Member Spotlight Scholarship!
Oct 26,2016My name is Sharelle Young and I am currently attending Valdosta state university. I am here pursing a dual master’s degree in industrial organizational psychology and business administration I have started my second year in my graduate program and it has been a lot of hard to work to say the least. Now that I have been in graduate school I work about 12 hours a day from going to work to coming home from class and doing homework. I spend a majority of my time on campus either working as a graduate assistant or going to classes. In my spare time I like to travel, go to amusement parks, and spend time with my friends and family since I cannot do that often. My college experience has been very time consuming, but fun at the same time. The amount of work that I put into my degree is expressed in so many ways outside of VSU. I have been able to gain many friends through networking, especially through my organization Society of Human Resource Management. I have also gained a lot of on the job experience through getting an internship at a Real Estate Company. This has been especially helpful in ensuring that personal development is a part of the college experience. Overall, I enjoy learning and will hopefully be able to continue my education after I graduate.
My career goals include becoming an external private consultant researching areas such as organizational culture, job satisfaction, and job commitment. I started to explore what I wanted to do with my life, and the first steps, after doing my research, were to recognize your strengths. I didn’t know what my top strengths were so I did some research and the findings were exactly what I already knew. My top strengths were: achiever, self-assurance, focus, futuristic, and restorative. The odds of another person having the same top strengths as me in that order are 1 in 333 million. The top quality of being an achiever is the most important. People especially talented in the achiever have a great deal of stamina and work extremely hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive. This describes me perfectly. I take pride in knowing that I have helped someone get their life in order. Second, people talented in self-assurance feel confident in their ability to manage their own lives, poses an inner compass that gives them confidence that their decision is right. This is also true of my personality because I feel that I have a natural born ability to be organized. I have helped numerous people get their projects in order and have seen the results show. I listen to each person’s needs, how they work, how long they like to work, etc. and display this chronologically by day, week, month, and up to a year. That top five strengths that are unique to me are key traits that are needed to be successful in my field because you have to be able to take the initiative, delegate tasks, track progress, and handle mistakes. My education prepares me for the business side, however my personal experience in organizing has allowed me to see what works and what does not work after many years of trial and error.
My ideal career would be to manage people and their projects all over the world. I want to be a private consultant who gets contracted out to different companies who have trouble with completing tasks, prioritizing work, completing projects, managing several projects, and overall organizing. I know that my knowledge, skills, and continuing education will prepare me to be a successful as a project manager and organizational consultant. I hope that after a few years I will have a wealth of information, skills, and new contacts to eventually open up my own private consulting firm.
I would really appreciate receiving this scholarship because I know that it will allow me to focus on receiving my degree. By receiving this scholarship, my tuition will be mostly covered this semester. I was working an extra job to pay for my tuition, so this burden will not be present as I enter the school year. I will be able to put forth more effort into my education and not have to focus so much on working extra hours. I am doing all that I can in school to make sure that I will be successful once I enter the real world, however, taking time from my learning has made this process even more difficult. This scholarship will allow me put all my focus into developing myself professionally, mentally, and physically. I appreciate your time and consideration in selecting me as the scholarship recipient. Thank You.
