Why Political Science Chose Me
Mar 27,2016When I tell people that I am a political science major, they often look at me with awe and a lot of questions on their mind. They wonder why I would want to get into such a difficult and, at times to other people, boring major. I’m also sure a few of them wonder what a woman would want to do as a political science major. When I tell them that I am also pre-law, they look at me with further awe, as they wonder why I would want to go into one of the hardest jobs ever. I thought that I would use this article to explain all of this.
1. I love learning about the founding of America. Growing up, all throughout school I always loved learning about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. As a political science major, I am constantly learning about the Constitution. It is a document that is near and dear to our hearts; I own seven or eight copies. I keep pocket Constitutions everywhere: in my purse, in my car, in my backpack, in my desk drawer, my work bag, and I even gave one to my mom to carry with her. The Constitution is a sacred document to us, and we hope others treat it with the same respect.
2. The law has always fascinated me. I have always been curious about laws and why they were passed, and as a political science major, I get plenty of that. I love reading and learning about Supreme Court cases that have led to Constitutional amendments or new laws. I realized at the end of my high school career that I wanted to help protect and defend those amendments and laws, which is why I want to be a lawyer. It is something that I have always been drawn too, and it still fascinates me to this day.
3. Political science chose me. This sounds totally cheesy, and in a way, it is, but political science really chose me as a major. Before, I was wanting to be a history major, because I love history and I was wanting to be a teacher. I quickly realized that teaching is not for me, but I didn’t have anything else to study. I started thinking about political science, and the more I thought about it, the more it felt right to me. So, political science chose me, and I’m glad it did.
I hope that this article has given some insight into why I wanted to choose political science as my major and why I am pre-law. Let me know if you are a political science or pre-law major and why you chose it. I also want to know if you are a different major, why you chose it. I love hearing other people’s stories on the job they want to do and why they choose it. If you are an undeclared major, I would love to hear what your interests are and what you might like to do. Thanks for reading!
