Top Five Virtual Volunteering Opportunities
Sep 01,2020Hello students! As I know firsthand, many students are looking for volunteer opportunities (especially after many of their opportunities got canceled), so below is a list of five virtual volunteer opportunities.
1. Your local library
I know many libraries currently have opportunities for students to volunteer virtually. At my library, the current virtual opportunities include students writing summaries for books they recommend, attending zoom calls on volunteering to help tutor other students, and making crafts that symbolize books they recommend. At my library at least, it is really easy to sign up for these programs as all you need to do is fill out a form online and list one person who would recommend you then wait for them to approve or deny you. This is a great opportunity especially if you are looking for an opportunity that is flexible.
2. United Nations Volunteer
The United Nations Volunteer Organization connects you with organizations working for peace and development in need of skills like research, writing, art, and design. If you enjoy any of these skills, this is the opportunity for you! There are already over 12,000 volunteers from 187 countries lending their skills to organizations around the globe. I personally do not volunteer with this organization, but it seems like a job opportunity and will look good on your college application.
3. Crisis Text Line
Become a volunteer to help the Crisis Text Line continue to offer free, 24/7 support for those in crisis. If you’re at least 18 and can commit to volunteering four hours each week, you can apply to be trained for free. Of course, keep in mind that you will have to be more committed to this opportunity than any other. You also need to decide if you are okay with being exposed to some situations that may be hard to deal with. This can be a good opportunity though to make an actual difference in somebody’s life! You can learn a lot of life lessons from this type of volunteering.
4. Bookshare.Org
Bookshare Organization offers thousands of books to people with reading disabilities. As an online volunteer, you can either scan books to be added to the collection or edit books that have been scanned. If you enjoy editing and working with audio technology, then this is a good opportunity for you to volunteer.
5. VocaliD
VocaliD designs personalized synthetic voices for people who have lost their voice or have severe speech impairments. Share your voice and help drive innovation in voice technology. It is awesome to know that you could make a huge difference in someone’s life just by sharing your voice! This may seem like a little thing to you, but it could mean the world to someone else.
I hope you found this article helpful and that you check out at least one of these amazing volunteer opportunities. Enjoy your virtual volunteering!
