HonorSociety.org Chapter President Spotlight: Alpha Pi at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Nov 29,2016

It has been over a year since the HonorSociety.org students at University of Illinois Urbana-Champagin decided that a chapter on their campus would become an integral part of the campus community. Through the process of the members meeting together and finding a chapter advisor, Lindsay Cardosi, a history major on the pre-law track, was able to found the chapter and became the first President of the Alpha Phi chapter.

The process to make this chapter a reality began in the Fall 2015 semester when another HonorSociety.org member, Samantha Bollet, reached out to Lindsay about taking on the role of chapter president. These two members of HonorSociety.org demonstrated strong leadership skills by being able to identify who can excel in different roles. Samantha's confidence in Lindsay and Lindsay's hard work made the chapter possible.

The chapter was officially announced for the Fall 2016 semester and Lindsay will complete her first year as president in the 2016-2017 academic year.

Lindsay took the time to answer some questions about her experience as chapter president. You can learn about her experience below.

How has being a member of Honor Society helped you academically, professionally or both?

It has taught me more about leadership and how to manage time even more than I had to before.

How will the Honor Society chapter benefit your university’s community?

We will be striving to be better campus leaders and do volunteer work across for not only university members, but campus community members.

What is your major? What drew you to that major?

Major in History, minor in Political Science, on the Pre-Law track. I've always been fascinated in American history and what has happened in the past to shape the present and what will shape the future.

What do you do in your free time?

I like to watch Law and Order SVU, Criminal Minds, How to Get Away with Murder, Secrets and Lies, and Chicago P.D.

What impact do you want to have on the world and on your community?
I want to be a Prosecuting Attorney to help the community and get justice for families/community members that have been wronged by a criminal act(s).

Why do you think it is important to be an active member of Honor Society?

I believe that being a member of Honor Society will bring more patience to members and bring out true volunteer and leadership qualities members hold.

Why are community service and networking opportunities important elements of professional development?
Community service and network development is important for professional development because it exemplifies dedication, perseverance, and the characteristics of a person who strives to be the best of their ability.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." Therefore, I am a very positive person and always see the glass as "half-full".

Who is your mentor and how have they helped you succeed. Tell us about a time they were a huge influence on you.
My mentor would be my mother. She has impacted my life like no other. She has always worked her absolute hardest to display her dedication in life and has proven the quote, "The harder you work, the luckier you get", to be true. She has had her struggles in life, but is still the most positive, loving, compassionate, gracious, and hard-working person I have ever met. I am so lucky to call her my mother.
