I am currently a junior communications major at SUNY Geneseo, having just arrived this fall as a transfer student. I feel as though my experience as a transfer student is a key part of who I have become as a person and a student. After graduating high school in 2014, I've spent each year experiencing a different aspect of life. I spent my freshman year of college at The New School in New York City, where I got an incredibly unique education- I thrived academically, but I also learned how to live independently in the concrete jungle. However, I ultimately decided it wasn't the right fit, and left New York to take a gap year in Rochester. There, I worked full time while also taking a few classes as part time student at my local community college. And now I've finally come to settle at SUNY Geneseo, where I immediately became active and involved in the student community I was craving so much after spending a year away from school. After only a month in Geneseo, I've joined two vocal music groups, been elected as an assistant editor for the Geneseo Student Newspaper, and have been accepted into the Women's Leadership Institute. I can't help but attribute my success to the necessary work ethic, willingness to adapt, and perseverance that I've developed as a transfer student.
