Buckle Up, it's Finals Week!
Apr 30,2015Finals are just around the corner for most college students; in fact, I am typing this article during my dead week (that infamous week before finals). I don’t know about you, but I am currently stressing out while trying to keep calm, if that is even achievable. So, as one of my education articles, I decided to come up for some tips to help all of us struggling together through dead week and finals!
Tip #1: Study!
The first obvious tip I have is to study for your final exams. I know, I know…studying is not a fun pastime. It is, though, the key to acing those finals! In order to fully concentrate, find a study method that works for you. The first thing to do is to look through the study guide, if your professor has provided you with one. They took the time to make the study guide, so it would be beneficial to at least glance through it in order to get an idea of what the exam will look like. Another thing I like to do is self-quiz myself to make sure that I know the information. Then, I re-read the notes that I have taken in class. If my professor uses PowerPoints and uploads them online, I also review those. If you cannot focus alone, get some people together from your class and form a study group! You each may have different strengths and weaknesses and can use these to help each other.
Tip #2: Find Some Time to Relax
Studying is an important part of doing well on your finals; however, if you do not find time to relax in-between study sessions, you could easily become burned out. So, study for 30 minutes and then take a 10-15 minute break until you feel ready to pass your exam! How you relax is up to you; maybe you are addicted to watching YouTube videos like me. I am subscribed to people that make me laugh or that share the same interests as me. This helps me to let go of the tension I build up by cramming information into my mind. Other things to do are to look on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or Yik Yak. Maybe you read a chapter in a book. Whatever you do, make sure that you take time to let out tension.
Tip #3: Reward Yourself
When the exam itself is over, reward yourself for getting through it! Maybe treat yourself to some ice cream or your favorite comfort food. Go to the mall and walk around (maybe even buy yourself something nice)! Go to the movies or stay at home and watch your favorite movie. Whatever you do, make sure to treat yourself, because you’re worth it!
Tip #4: Don’t Stress
This is a tip I have to keep reminding myself about. If I had a superhero name, it would be The Stresser. Finals week is a stressful time for everyone, but just study hard and try your best. It will not be the end of the world if you do poor on one final; there will be other classes and other finals that you can use to prove yourself!
I hope these tips help you through the stress that finals week brings! Let me know if any of these tips help and how your finals went!
