3 Steps To Your First Million Dollars
Oct 05,2015Selling is like physics.
They both deal with forces THOUSANDS of times more powerful than the people who use them.
In physics, the forces are the laws of the universe. In selling, they are the hopes, fears and desires of millions upon millions of people, all over the world. Hopes, fears and desires that have taken YEARS to develop, and are created by things way bigger than any person can command.
The scientist didn’t create the energy of the sun, but can harness it into an explosion. And the smart businessman doesn't try to create desire, but to CHANNEL it to make him or herself a millionaire.
So you can't just try to think of an idea in your own head, and then think you can work really hard to make people want what you're selling. That's what most people do…and it's like trying to surf against the wave.
What you need to do is take these gigantic natural forces and USE THEM.
But first, you need to understand them.
You need to understand people’s desires and fears on a level so deep that you can make products that satisfy them, and then tie those desires and fears back to your product. Because people don’t buy products anyway. They buy their DREAMS.
So remember what Peter Drucker said… “The aim of marketing is to know and understand the customer so well that the product or service fits him and sells itself.”
And then take action.
Here are 3 specific things you can do…
1. Always look at what people are buying like hot cakes. This will help you identify trends you can tap into
2. Ask yourself what deeper need those products are satisfying. This will help you identify wants and desires you may want to create a solution for through a product or service
3. When you talk to people – friends, family, customers – ask questions. Understand what keeps them up at night and what they dream about. Learn to see the world through their eyes. This will help you speak directly to their wants and desires in your marketing
Henry Ford once said that “If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle."
If you do that, the world will be at your fingertips.
