National Art Honor Society
What is the history of the National Art Honor Society?
The National Art Honor Society was established in 1978 in the United States by the National Art Education Association for high school students grades 9-12 from the National Art Honor Society. The NAEA also offers a National Junior Art Honor Society for students in grades 6-8.
What are the requirements to be in the National Art Honor Society?
- 90 or higher in Art Classes.
- Grade 9-12 with 1 year of credit in Art.
- 2 teacher recommendations are necessary.
- 8 hours of arts related community service to be accepted.
- Must maintain a “B” average in other subject areas.
- No ISS or OSS.

Students:

- have the opportunity to be published in NAHS News (the semiannual, full-color digital publication of the NAHS program). Artwork submitted for inclusion is often used in other NAEA publications!
- are eligible to submit artwork for possible inclusion in the annual NAHS/NJAHS Juried Exhibition held at the NAEA Studio & Gallery.
Based on the information, here is our review:
Our first observation is: that this society has a Junior society for middle school students, to prepare them for the main society in high school.
Our second observation was: that this society is less GPA based rather than credit and talent based.
Our third observation was: that this society provides the opportunities for scholarship to high school students, which can truly set them up for life in this field.
