  • In selection of members, eligible candidates are selected from the entire upper one-third of these in the junior and senior civil engineering class or a directly associated engineering option.

  • Most engineering disciplines have a recognized national honor society. For the Civil Engineering profession, Chi Epsilon fills this role.
  • Chi Epsilon was founded in 1922 to recognize and honor civil engineering students and professionals, and now has 137 active chapters at universities across the United States. It is widely recognized in the profession and has initiated over 114,000 members.
  • Students and professionals are selected to become members based on recognition of their scholarship, character, practicality and sociability, considered by Chi Epsilon to be the four primary traits of a successful engineer.

What are the key benefits of being a member of Chi Epsilon?

  • Industry recognition
  • Community and School recognition
  • Each chapter occasionally selects an outstanding civil engineer to be a Chapter Honor Member of Chi Epsilon.
  • National Honor Membership shall be in recognition of outstanding professional accomplishments in the civil engineering community, and preeminent contribution to the mission of Chi Epsilon.
  • This is the highest honor which Chi Epsilon can confer. It has been granted 65 times in the 100-year history of the organization.

Based on the information, here is our review:

Our first observation is: We could barely find any benefits listed on their website, it just appears as though it is an honor within the Civil Engineering Community, with the ability to propel members’ career in that field.

Our second observation was: they do not offer any sort of discounts or financial benefits to college students, which many other societies supply.

Our third observation was:  This society seems to focus heavily on service and scholastic-based activities, making it the perfect place to forge lifetime connections in the Civil Engineering Field while helping the community at large.
